Our re-introduction to the ocean was a little hairy just outside of Barnegat Inlet. Thank goodness the wise Captain had chatted with SeaTow the day before. The trick is to hug the red buoys as you go up Oyster Creek towards the inlet. Once you clear the inlet and start going over what for us were 6 to 7 foot waves because of the incoming storm swell, you quickly take a left turn north AFTER you pass what’s called the monument, a large structure safely marking the end of the rocks. If you then make a large swooping circle north, east then south, you will avoid the 6 footers in the channel between the long, endless cans! We timed this inlet for slack tide, which worked out great! I wouldn’t recommend it on an outgoing tide, Martin says those waves would be twice as big! 😳 That’s the skinny!
