The site where Texas fought for and won its independence by defeating Gen. Antonio López de Santa Anna and his army in 1836. The famous battle cry "remember the Alamo" rang out from Gen. Sam Houston's Texans during the battle, which lasted only 18 minutes and ultimately lead to total Mexican surrender. And in true Texan fashion, the 567-feet-tall column is taller than the Washington Monument. #Texas #rememberthealamo
