Talking about endurance. This is where the long-distance triathlon championships are held every year. The area looks VERY small for over 2,000 athletes. According to residents of Kona, it's best to leave the town for these two days in October. Most roads are blocked off and it's all very annoying. Other than this sign and one tiny shop nothing else reminds visitors of this event. Hardly any cyclists on the roads. I guess, Hawaiians are proud of surfing, triathlon ("invasive sport") is just a white, colonial nuisance they have to put up with once a year.
