That's where the apple trees grow. Gays Mills is famous for its orchards throughout Wisconsin (seriously). The trees are dwarf trees and you seldomly need a ladder. I was sore the second day and thought I would have to quit on day three, but slowly I got used to it. They grow some varities that we have in Germany too, like Gala, Jonagold, Granny Smith, Red/Golden Delicious, Pink Lady and Fuji, but others were completely new to me: Greening, Cortland, Macintosh (Yes, Apple Inc. is named after it), Ida Red, Bailey Sweet, Honeycrisp (their most popular variety), Jonathon, Red Rome, Empire, Tollmen Sweet and some others. I had been completely unaware of the whole apple world!

One Family, One Year, Just One Other Country

The date is drawing closer... We'll be heading to the US in four weeks! Let the adventure begin. I will use this blog to let colleagues and friends know what we are up to. I will try to post one photo every week that shows some cultural differences...
