After 9 months of planning, anticipation, and excitement we are finally venturing to a destination that has been calling, AFRICA. I have never been and always wanted to go. So much about this country, culture, and people has intrigued me, and finally it's here. Ryan has been twice, once to Capetown and once to Kenya, so planning a trip that was new for both of us was fun and exciting. I have always wanted to see those darn lions, I can't even imagine the feeling I will have experiencing the wildest of animals in their natural habitat. This is something National Geographic has prepared me for for many years, truly epic. We decided to travel over Christmas for a couple of reasons. the biggest... living in Bavaria is beautiful, but in the winter months you don't see the sun for enough time for a red head to start looking tan. The freckles create an illusion. Germany makes Seattle look like Sunny California, so as seasonal affective disorder set in last fall, we decided this year Christmas would be a trip to remember. A hot sunny trip to remember. Tanzania was an easy choice, it has everything. Lions, and exotic Zanzibar which is predominately Muslim and sits on the Indian Ocean on one of the last remaining intact coral reef ecosystems in the world. It was a perfect fit. We planned diligently as we only have 17 days including weekends and holidays. With only 12 vacation days a year.....we saved for this. My emotions are running wild, it's 5:15 am I am am writing my first blog entry. We leave in 3 days....I can't sleep....I dream of Africa.

Overwhelmed with excitement check.

I'll miss this little lion
