I am so happy to go home today! It was a fun visit with Nana, but I'm happy I get to see Daddy and Mommy today!

Notes from Nana -
I'm ready to sleep!

7/24 - me with Great Grandma!

Gresham, United States

Notes from Carsyn -
I found my first geocache! My name is on the list of people who found it. It was hanging from a tree not too far into the trees. We went swimming in a river. It was fun! We both fell in, but the water wasn't cold, so it was OK. I saw little fish and water skippers.

Notes from Nana -
It was a thrill to find a geocache! Carsyn navigated us straight to the tree holding the cache, using a GPS app on my phone. Even though there was no trinket inside the cache, it was great to find, especially without being pricked by blackberry vines!

Carsyn wasn't sure that swimming in a river was a good idea, but, of course, it was. He loved it! The spot we were at is Latourette Park, about 15 minutes from my house. We had the park completely to ourselves. We scrambled down an embankment to a rocky beach (Carsyn running, me scrambling, I should say), and jumped into the water. We couldn't swim there, but waded in the water (fully clothed), looked for wildlife, slid on the algae-covered rocks, and fell in. Oh, well. It's just water, right?

7/23 - Sandy River - Heart rock

7/23 - Sandy River at Latourette Park

7/23 - Sandy River - another Heart rock (a bit muddied up)

7/23 - Sandy River

Oregon Zoo, United States

Notes from Carsyn -
I went to the zoo. I saw a lot of animals. It was cool! I even saw tigers, which are one of my favorites. I found out I can jump as far as a bobcat.

Notes from Nana -
I have not been to the Oregon Zoo in, oh, say, 20 years. I had forgotten how beautiful it is! All of the animal enclosures are large and surrounded by lush forest and exotic flowers. What a treat! We walked almost 5 miles (!), looking at and reading about every animal we could find. (Some were hidden away in shady places.) Carsyn's favorites were the tigers, bats, and black bears.

Today I made a very big sand castle. There were 4 watch towers and one big entrance. I jumped over waves that were very big. I let them go on me by planting my feet into the earth and staying there. We saw whales! I saw the fin and the water that blew out of them. It was cool! It was hard to see, too.

Notes from Nana -
We planned to go to the Seaside Aquarium today, but were derailed by jigsaw puzzles. Carsyn has a natural talent for finding pieces that match, both by colors and by shapes. He finished a 77-piece puzzle in about 20 minutes! On to 100-pieces!

After a dinner of fish sticks (Carsyn's first time), we headed to the beach, armed with shovels and buckets for castle-building.

We went waist-deep into the frigid ocean, jumping over incoming waves, holding hands only if the waves were higher than Carsyn's knees. Of course, I was less than an arm's length away at all times. You can't trust the ocean!

Seeing whales spout and roll through the waves (at a great distance) was a thrill!

7/19 - Puzzle Master!

7/19 - Sand Master!

7/19 - Digging to China

7/19 - Whale of the Sea

7/19 - Human Burial

7/19 - Doodoodoo

7/19 - brrrr

7/19 - This is fun!

7/19 - Watching the waves

7/19 - hmmm...

7/19 - Surprise!

7/19 - Yikes! Today I made my first food -- a whole meal. It was Minecraft Roasted Chicken and Potatoes. I liked the potatoes the best. Today was great! This is a first in a lifetime day, because I'm only 7 and I made a whole meal for the first time! Also, I completed 2 jigsaw puzzles.

Notes from Nana -
We decided this was a "little bit of this and little bit of that" day. We worked on jigsaw puzzles, took Great Grandma to a doctor appointment, started to make a plaster model of Carsyn's hands (but weren't able to complete it, since it has to dry 10-12 days), and cooked dinner. I was Carsyn's sous chef, with him calling all the shots. It was great fun! Carsyn read the instructions, used a knife, rolling pin and whisk, and told me how I could help. Hmmm... maybe a chef in the making!

7/16 - making noise... and cornflake crumbles

7/16 - Chef Carsyn's first meal

7/16 - YUM!

Portland, United States

Gresham
