The fact that Frontier Airlines is regarded for having some of the most affordable flights available means that joining the Frontier Discount Den will result in even more affordable airfare.

You may book fares at a discounted rate and receive buy-one-get-one-free kid's tickets on selected flights if you join Discount Den. And we're not just talking about a few pennies here; Discount Den member prices frequently cost $30 less per person each journey than ordinary rates.

The problem? It costs money to join Discount Den. It costs $59.99 each year, and unless you cancel before the end of your current term, it will automatically renew for the following year.

Frontier Airlines Discount Den is for you if …

You travel with an under-14-year-old child.

It's difficult to beat a buy-one-get-one offer if you're traveling with a child and are adaptable with your schedule. However, there are a few restrictions (more on that later), so read the small print carefully.

You don't always travel alone.

The biggest perk of Discount Den is that you may reserve cheaper flights not only for yourself but for up to six other travelers on your schedule. Savings range from $10 to $30 each flight on average. Once the membership cost is taken into account, you would save $60 on your first round-trip airfare for a party of six, assuming the discount is $10 per ticket. If the cost-savings break down to $30 per flight, that's a staggering $300 off a single round-trip group excursion.

With Frontier, you travel at least three times year.

Perhaps a Frontier hub is in the airport near you. Perhaps you don't mind that Frontier charges extra for amenities like refreshments and checked bags and just bring a small amount of luggage (leaving enough for your own snacks). If that describes you and you already travel with Frontier occasionally, a membership would be useful.

Skip Frontier Airlines Discount Den if …

You detest being charged extra fees.

The focus at Frontier is on charges. Seat selection, checked baggage, carry-on luggage, and the complementary in-flight meals and beverages offered by many other airlines are all extras that must be paid for. Find another airline if that kind of conduct will irritate you (Southwest is a low-cost carrier with some of the lowest costs of any airline).

Only a few times a year will you fly Frontier.

Even after only two round-trip flights, there's a strong possibility you'll come out ahead, but considering the $60 yearly charge, it might not be a significant gain.

You could kick yourself if you pay for the automatic renewal and forget to cancel when the next year comes around since it is a pain.

Additionally, if you don't enjoy traveling with Frontier, you could feel pressured to do so merely to maximize your savings, even if another airline has flights that are more convenient for your schedule (or just don't charge for a Coke).

Frontier’s Discount Den benefits

Following is a list of all the benefits of joining Frontier Discount Den:

Comparable prices to no one else (six per reservation)
There are two prices when buying flights: one for Discount Den members and one for everyone else. Although discounted Den airfares might vary, you can often save $10 to $30 on a one-way travel.

As long as you and the other passengers are on the same reservation, the rates are available for up to six individuals on your reservation.

You would cost $594 before taxes and fees to travel a party of six one-way on a reservation from Denver to Orlando. But with Discount Den, it's only $444, saving $150 right there (or a net $90 if the yearly membership price for Discount Den is taken into consideration).

certain flights provide children's fares at no cost
You are entitled to a complimentary ticket for any child 14 years old or under when flights are booked with your Discount Den membership for travel on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

However, if anything seems too good to be true, it probably is. The "Kids Fly Free" promotion comes with a lot of restrictions. The tickets must be ordered at least 14 days in advance. A round-trip flight must have been purchased (one-way flights do not qualify). Hopefully, your family's vacation won't take you to Mexico, Canada, or South America as international travel is not acceptable.

A number of blackout dates and blackout routes are also included. The following dates and itineraries are excluded from the promotion:

This list includes a lot of family-friendly locations. You might not actually be able to fly your children for free if you're going to, say, Orlando, which is served by Orlando International Airport.

Other restrictions include the loss of the BOGO price if you need to change your flight and the fact that your child's free flight won't accrue Frontier points. Additionally, you will still be charged for the regular Frontier add-ons like luggage or seat preference.

Availability of additional discounts and offers

The value of Frontier's "exclusive promotions" for members varies, but they are also promised. One of the nicest was a $100 flight ticket for anyone who joined up for Discount Den before March 20, 2020 (during the early stages of the pandemic), and it was among the insanely fantastic promos we've seen. If not, it's typical to find member-only discounts on particular flights on particular dates, which may or may not be helpful to you.

How to get Discount Den membership for free (or cheap)

Membership in the Discount Den is one of the finest perks of having elite status with Frontier Airlines.

You can get a 50% discount on your membership if you have Frontier's Elite 50k status (achieved by accruing 50,000 qualifying miles or 50 qualifying flight segments yearly from January 1 through December 31 of the same year).

You may join the Discount Den for free if you have Elite 100k status (achieved by accruing 100,000 qualifying miles or 100 qualifying flight segments yearly from January 1 through December 31 of the same year).

The other Frontier program: Frontier Miles

It is generally always a good idea to join the airline's free frequent flyer club, Frontier Miles, whether or not you decide to join Discount Den. Frontier miles are valued by NerdWallet at 0.9 cents apiece.

Unfortunately, if there has been no activity on your account for 180 days, those miles would ordinarily expire. However, Frontier has temporarily halted all expirations due to the COVID-19 epidemic.

If you’re considering joining the Discount Den

Discount If you only take a few flights a year, and especially if you fly with at least one other person, den may easily be worthwhile. However, be realistic about how much you'll be able to save by taking advantage of the offers.

If it's your one and only time using Frontier, you may still think about it, but you should probably pass. Although you might be able to save roughly $60 on a single roundtrip travel, the hassle of signing up (and remembering to cancel before the automatic renewal date) may not be worth it if you'll only end up breaking even.

However, if you fly Frontier at least a few times a year or you travel with kids (or even simply other adults and you'll buy their flight), Discount Den not only pays for itself but might also save you hundreds of dollars.

Also keep in mind that if you account for the price of luggage or in-flight refreshments, Frontier tickets probably won't end up being as inexpensive as they appear. Discount Den might result in significant savings if you've already committed to Frontier. You could discover that the Frontier membership program you just paid for is a bear for punishment if you don't like hidden costs and plenty of tiny text.
